Bombers Take 2nd at the 2023
|
October 25, 2022
The Boise Bombers are on the road to Reno, Nevada for the Reno Rumble. We have Kory Puderbaugh as a guest player for this tournament because or MVP from the Seattle tournament CJ Brown fractured his ankle last month. The competition was going to be tough so instead af canceling the tournament we decided to bring along our former big dog player. This is going to be very exciting because the Bombers will be able to run a 3, 2, 2, 1 line with two players with age adjustments meaning we are running 9 points on the floor. This is huge! In Seattle our best line was only 8.0 points with age adjustment so our strong lines will have 1.0 more value of function on the court. For those of you that don't understand the classification system this is a huge break for us. We need a volunteer to Facetime our games, if we get one we will try and have them streeming on Facebook. |
Bombers Take 2nd at the Slam On The Sound 2022 Wheelchair Rugby Tournament!
The Boise Bombers finished in second place at the 2022 Slam on the Sound wheelchair rugby tournament. The season kicked off in Renton, Washington September 30 with the first game placing the Bombers up against the toughest team in the tournament the Las Vegas High Rollers. The Bombers started two veteran players #14 Steven Baxter (2.5a) and #8 Spencer Larimore (1.5a) alongside two new Bombers, #2 CJ Brown (2.0) and Canadian import #6 Ben Perkins (2.0). This was the very first time we got to see our new Canadian import player in our lineup. It took a few minutes for us to figure out how each other play and we got into a grove in the second half hanging in point for point. We lost that first game by eleven points but we would not lose again for the rest of the tournament. Everyone got a lot of playing time including our newest recruit #3 Logan Fuller (NC). The Bombers finished the weekend going 4 and 1 and won the very cool looking 2nd place trophy made by Jeremy Hanaford from the Seattle Slam. CJ Brown was voted tournament MVP! The Bombers head to Reno for the Reno Rumble Halloween weekend. Go Bombers!

Bombers Win 1st Place at Reno Rumble
October 2017
The Boise Bombers combined teams with the Utah Scorpions for the 2017-18 season. Our first tournament of the season was a huge sucecess with the Bombers first tournament championship win at the 2017 Reno Rumble! The Boise Bombers entered the tournament in the 6th place seed and lost the first game to the number one seed San Diego Sharp by one point. It was a nail biter with the Bombers leading most of the game untill the very last minutes where Sharp inched their way into the lead. We had a chance to tie up the game in the final seconds but we couldn't pull it off. The Bombers dominated the rest of the games winning by 10 or more points against the rest of the teams. In the end it was a three way tie for first place between Boise, Northridge, and San Diego but the Bombers had the best score spread giving us the first place trophy. Congratulations to Jeff Christensen for earning the vote for best low pointer in the tournament! Stay tuned in December we travel to Houston, TX for the Metal and Muscle tournament!

Third Annual Toy for Tots Rugby Bash!
December 13, 2014 by Spencer Larimore

The third annual Toys for Tots Rugby Bash had the best turn out yet! The Boise Bombers and the Boise Parks and Recreation Adventure Seekers Program were host to this years event with the Nemesis Women's Rugby Team, The BSU Rugby Club, Snake River Rugby Team, and the 43rd Crimson Lions Rugby Team. It was quite the event with four games of wheelchair rugby and more than 250 toys donated to Toys for Tots. It's almost hard to believe that this is the third year we have hosted this event. Each year it gets bigger and better with more fans, teams, and Toys. This was the first year that the 43rd Crimson Lions came out to play. I had run into some of their players at The Lift bar and grill a few months back. They asked me about wheelchair rugby and if they could play in the Christmas game. I have to say its pretty cool to see the popularity of our sport rise and have recognition from other athletes like this. A few of our players even had some good smack talk on the old Facebook with some of the Snake River players who have been playing in this game from the start. These games have created some great comradery, friendships as well as some great competition. The following weekend we had several of the Lions and BSU players return to the court for a full two and a half hour practice. It was a blast and helped our team work on our lineups. We would like to thank all of the volunteers, organizers, fans, refs, and players that helped make this event possible.
The Third Annual Food Drive Rugby Scrimmage was a Blast!
November 20, 2014 by Spencer Larimore
The Boise Bombers wheelchair rugby team, the Treasure Valley Rollergirls, the Capital City Skull Crushers and Boise Parks and Recreation joined together to help out the City Light Women's Shelter with a fun filled evening of rugby and food donations. All of the teams brought in a good group of fans, food, and fierce competition. Throughout the year we ask for a lot of help from our friends, family, and the community to help keep the Boise Bombers wheelchair rugby team funded so that we can travel and compete at the national level. This is the time of year that we love to give back to our community that has helped us out so much. The Boise Bombers would like to thank everyone who helped make this event possible and to everyone who donated food. We have another charity event coming soon. The Toys for Tots wheelchair rugby bash is December 13th from 4-7pm at the Fort Boise Community Center. Come see some intense action between the Boise Bombers and several able bodied rugby teams. Be sure to bring an unwrapped toy!
The 2014-15 Season is Underway!
November 9, 2014 by Spencer Larimore
The Bombers traveled to Tacoma and Reno to start out the 2014-15 season. To kick it off we drove to Tacoma, Washington the last weekend in September and finished in fourth place. We traveled with minimal players and it was an iron man test of our endurance. We proved ourselves beating British Columbia 49-43 with only a four man line up! The Bombers finished 2 and 3 for the weekend.
The Halloween Reno Rumble wasn't as victorious but we got to travel with a larger squad. The Bombers had a few really close battles in the early quarters but too many turnovers got the best of us and we didn't get any wins. Kory Puderbaugh was voted best high point player of the tournament! Congratulations Kory!
Exciting events coming up soon!
November 22, 2014 at the Fort Boise Community Centerat at 4pm we are having our 3rd annual Food Drive scrimmage benefiting the City Light Women's Shelter. The Boise Bombers will challenge both the Treasure Valley Rollergirls and the Capital City Skull Crushers in wheelchair rugby games. Please bring canned food, boxed food, or a turkey!

Team Rampage Are Summer League Champions Again!
It's the end of another successful season of Summer League Wheelchair Rugby put on by the Boise Park's Adventure Program with Team Rampage as reigning champs. It didn't come without a fight though, the Ballers lead by Willie Bosserman and Pat Dourghety have been the runners up both seasons. The game started with the Rampage's lead player Spencer Larimore headed to the lavatory with stomach issues and the Ballers took advantage jumping on a five point lead by half time. After a few minutes into the second half Lairamore returned to the court with Jeff Christensen, Paul Cox and Wilson Antoniuk to try and cut into the five point lead of The Ballers. After a few point for point possessions Team Rampage created four back to back turnovers to bring the game within a point. The two teams battled point for point for the next few minutes until The Ballers used up all of their timeouts. Team Rampage took advantage and got The Ballers no spread offense on a few 12 second violations and various other turnovers to gain the lead. In the end it was all Team Rampage for a final score of 28-23. The Boise Bombers would like to thank our fantastic referees, volunteers, players, fans, and staff from Boise Parks and Recreation for their help and support. Very few teams across the country have such an awesome event going on with their community. It's pretty darn cool how well we have packed the gym on Thursday nights in the summer. Thank you all! Check out tons of photos from the championship game as well as several other games in our photo gallery.
Bombers Bring Home Hardware!!

February 7-9, 2014
By Spencer Larimore
The Boise Bombers finished third place at the Matt Reynolds Memorial Tournament in Irving, Texas to bring home their first piece of hardware. It was a bittersweet victory for yours truly as I started playing rugby in Dallas, Texas back in 2008. This was our second time attending the Matt Reynolds Memorial Tournament, last year we didn't fare so well we won only one game beating San Antonio's B team by 1 point. This year we started out pretty well all though we did lose to TIRR in the first game and we were with out Kory Puderbaugh for day one. The second game we played my old team the North Texas Cowboys. We rallied together in the first half, fighting for a nail biting 1 point lead. The second half was all Bombers and we finish the game 55 - 47. Day two started with a game against the Texas Stampede B team led by the all-tournament 3.0 Mason Symons. Kory Puderbaugh arrived for the remainder of the tournament and he was an immeasurable force against the Stampede. His agility and speed was too much for the Stampede to handle and we beat them by 14 points, we finished the game 55 - 41. In the late game we played the Switzerland national team, by the end of a tough first quarter we were only down by three. By the end of the game they proved to be too much to handle, they racked up the points and beat us by a whopping 71 - 34. The Switzerland boys were pretty good. So going to into Sunday's game we were 2 and 2 up against the Edmonton Steel Wheels (2 -2) to fight for third place. We played these boys in Reno back in October and lost by 7 points so it was our time for redemption and to bring home the hardware. The game was pretty tight all the way through but the Boise Bombers held on to the lead to achieve the most exciting win in the Boise Bombers history. The final score was 55 - 52. Spencer Larimore won best 1.5 of the tournament. Everyone on the Boise Bombers team has worked extremely hard and has made huge improvements. Our new coach, Ana Mimani has picked up the game quickly and is a major factor in the growth of our team. I cant express how thankful and proud I am of our team, they all have stepped up their game! I also want to give a shout out to Stuart Larimore, my dad, for fixing countless flat tires and broken rugby equipment. Big thanks to all of our volunteers, sponsors and fans! Without you there would be no us. Next stop is Sectionals Feb 21-23 in Tacoma, Washington, Go Bombers! CLICK HERE to see photos from the tournament.

Zumbba Dance Party Fundraiser was a Success!

The Boise Bombers and several Treasure Valley area Zumba instructors came together to have a fun Halloween themed dance party and fundraiser for the team. Several people turned out for the fun filled event to shake their booty and dress up as scary zombies! The Boise Bombers performed the Thriller dance lead by the awesome Zumba instructor Natalie Gallegos. They worked on choreography for several weeks to put on an amazing show! Check out the Youtube video and photos! The Bombers would like to thank everyone who helped organize this event and everyone who donated and participated! We all had a great time!
First Rugby Tournament of the 2013-14 Season!
The 2013 USQRA season is off and running with the Boise Bombers first tournament of the year in Las Vegas! We are proud to introduce our newest Bomber Kory Puderbaugh. He did very well playing in his first quad rugby tournament. The team showed a lot of improvement over last year's Vegas tournament scoring almost 10 more goals on average per game. We still have a lot to work on till we start bringing home the wins. We got a chance to play 3 of the teams coming to our home tournament in November and we get to play them again in Reno next week. We are studying game film and practicing hard so when we host our tournament we will hopefully win. Thanks again to our sponsors and volunteers that make all of this possible. Go Bombers!
Low-pointers Traveled to Reno for Low-point Tournament

We took the low pointers to Reno for a fun weekend in August. This tournament only allows players classed 1.5 and lower with the total player points on the floor adding up to 3.5. A normal tournament would have a max of 8.0 points on the floor. We ran lineups with Spencer (1.5) Jeff (1.0) Josiah (0.5) and Willie (0.5) with Jacob (0.5) as a sub for Willie or Josiah. We won a game against Sierra Storm and had a couple close losses with Northridge and Nor-Cal. It was a great weekend to get back into tournament mode before the real season starts! Thanks again to all of our friends and family that cheered us on and fixed all our flats! Click Here to see more photos of the low-point tournament.
Team Rampage are Summer League Champions!!!

The Summer League series came to an end Thursday, July 11 with some fiercely competitive wheelchair rugby games. The first game of the night was dominated by the Scull Crushers led by team captain Tracy Lewis who has stepped up huge in his first team leadership role. The second game of the night was a huge upset of the highly ranked 3rd seed Steamrollers. Unfinished Business had their team name in mind when they impressively won 31-22 over the Steamrollers who won the first match up of these two teams by 11 points in week two. I give Unfinished Business coached by Josiah Sullivan the most improved team award. The final game of the night was a highly anticipated rematch of the two best teams in the league. Their first regular season game came down to the last few seconds and was won by only one point. So we all knew this was going to be a killer game to watch and or play in. Team Rampage coached by Spencer Larimore and The Ballers coached by Willie Bosserman both hit the floor in an intense point for point battle. The Ballers had a two point lead for about 2 minutes otherwise it was tied up most of the game. With the game tied 21-21 Rampage had possession of the ball with 35 seconds left on the clock and they charged down the court to score the final goal! The Summer League was a huge success in getting our sport more recognition in the Treasure Valley. It was a blast! This was by far some of the funnest rugby I've ever played. Thank you all for putting together such competitive teams. Lots of thanks to LeAnn Sullivan, Kent Sullivan, Stuart Larimore, Alyssa Antoniuk, Lori Wheeler, Gail Bosserman, Rebecca Mullikin, and Max Forkner for your help reffing, score keeping, equipment and cooking. Hope to see everyone back next year!

1st Annual Matt Reynolds Memorial Tournament in Irving, Texas Feb. 8,9,10, 2013

The Boise Bombers took to the air to travel to Irving, Texas for their final tournament of the season. Traveling together was a blast even if they packed us in the airplane like a bunch of sardines. Hauling seven quads, seven rugby chairs, wheel bags, extra gear, and our every day chairs put Delta to the test. We had the ground crew running two jump seats back and forth just to get us loaded on the airplane. But even after having to do it all again with the layover in Salt Lake there were no problems.
The first game of the tournament on Friday didn't go so great against the number one seed Houston Texans. We started off pretty good scoring 5 points to their 6 then we changed our lineup and lost 7 straight points. We are still learning how to match up and when to sub. The final score was a deflating loss of 55-20.
Our second game was our best match up of the tournament against the Chicago Bears. The first half was almost a point for point game with the exception of a few turnovers with the score 13-14 in favor of Da Bears. They increased their lead by 4 at the half and by 9 at the end of the 3rd quarter. We managed to battle back in the end to close the gap to 52-47 but we gave up too many turnovers early to get the win. We really need to schedule our next tournament with this team.

A Taste of Victory at the Portland Invitational

The Bombers got their first two victories on the road at the 2013 Portland Pounders Invitational. In the first game of the tournament against British Columbia - B we won 39-37. A huge improvement against the same team that beat us in September 45 - 27... We started using the T defense right from the start and it worked well. We were ahead by 5 at the half and then made some substitutions to get everyone some court time. BC then gained a bit of momentum and got back in the game. We made some adjustments and regained control till the last 2 minutes where we lost a few key turnovers and they brought the game within 1 point. We took a bench time out and settled down and finished the game up 2 points! It was nice to get our first win in the books.

First Annual Toys For Tots Rugby Bash Had Huge Turnout

The Boise Bombers wheelchair rugby team scrimmaged three able body rugby teams in wheelchair rugby at the Fort Boise Community Center to benefit Toys for Tots. Each team and spectator was asked to bring an unwrapped toy to the event and boy did they! We ended up with 2 bicycles, a radio flyer, and bags and bags of other toys. We want to thank the Snake River Rugby team, the Boise Nemesis Women's Rugby team, and the BSU Men's Rugby team for coming out and bringing so many fans. Each team gave it their all on and off the court, its was a lot of fun watching some of the big guys get in the little rugby chairs. There were some big hits and I think the able body players gained some new respect for the disabled players... They should we put a whipping on them! Overall the event was a huge success thanks to Carrie Crash, Nicolas Kawaguchi, and Spencer Larimore for organizing the teams and the event. We want to always thank Emily Kovark from the Boise Parks and Recreation Adventure Program for helping set up the venue without her none of this would happen. Also we want to thank Nic and Big J from 100.3 the X Rocks for all of the promotions over the weekend! One of the best parts of this event was that it brought so many cool people together, the Treasure Valley's rugby community is awesome and we all made some great new friends! Looking forward to next year and making this an annual event. Click Here for some awesome photos of the event!
Food Drive Scrimmage Was a Big Hit!

The Boise Bombers scrimmaged the Vallivue Falcons Lacrosse team November 17th for a food drive benefiting the City Light Women's Shelter. Tons of fans both for the Bombers and Falcons showed up to pack the gym and cheer on their teams. The Bombers smashed their way to a win while the lacrosse players got a small taste of life on wheels. It was a really fun event and the crowd got into the game more and more after every crashing hit. We had an abundance of donated food items from frozen turkeys, tons of canned and boxed goods, to a case of chili. As a non-profit organization we have asked for help and donations to make it all happen, this was a great opportunity for us to give back to the community. We are going to have another scrimmage/benefit on December 15th for Toys for Tots so if you missed this one come out to the next! We always want to thank our sponsors, fans, and volunteers for all they do for us. Thank you! Click here to see more photos of the event.
Helter Skelter 6 Team Quad Rugby Tournament October 12,13,14, 2012

Our second tournament of the year was a tough one in Las Vegas. We played against these five tough teams, Nor-Cal Quake, Sierra Storm, Arizona Wildcats, Sin City Sculls, and the Ottawa Stingers. Click here to check out the results. We had a blast on Fremont Street after the games were done! Check out a few pics from the strip. We want to thank our volunteers, family, friends, and sponsors: Access Vans, C&R Medical, and Freewheel for making these trips possible. Thank you!
Slam on the Sound 8 Team Quad Rugby Tournament September 28, 29, 30, 2012

The Boise Bombers traveled to Tacoma, Washington the last weekend of September to play in their first USQRA sanctioned wheelchair rugby tournament. Although we didn't come away with any wins the team improved a lot over the course of the weekend. The Bombers played in 5 games playing Portland B twice loosing in the first game 26 - 53 and 40 - 47 in the second for good close battle. We actually held a 2 point lead going into the 2nd quarter! Not bad at all for our first tournament. Several players were classified temporarily Willie Bosserman 0.5, Josiah Sullivan 0.5, Tracy Lewis 2.0, and Steve Baxter 3.0. Jeff Christensen, George Austin, Jacob White, and Spencer Larimore all had been through the classification process before. We do hope that we can get some of the old classifications brought down at a later tournament when we get to see a full panel of classifiers. Click on these links to see some great photos from the tournament, watch some video highlights, and check out the tournament results.
Bombers Make Second Visit to Utah September 15- 16, 2012

The Boise Bombers kicked off the 2012 quad rugby season with a trip to the Copperview Recreation center in Midvale, Utah to scrimmage against the Utah Scorpions. The Bombers brought eight players down for the event and everyone had a great time. The Scorpion players commented several times on how much we have improved in the past five months since our last visit. They have a very experienced squad and we all have learned a lot from them. In two weeks we will see how well we fare against them in a sanctioned tournament in Tacoma, Washington. We have a lot of work ahead of us as we prepare for our first real tournament. Click on the group photo to see more photos LeAnn Sullivan shot at the event. Thanks LeAnn! We all want to thank the Scorpions, the staff at the Copperview rec center, and all the family and friends that helped ref and fix our equipment!
Portland Pounders vs. Boise Bombers! July 14-15 2012

The Boise Bombers hosted our first scrimmage games with the Portland Pounders July 14th and July 15th at the Fort Boise Community Center. The Portland team brought 4 players with classifications of .5 1.0 1.5 and a female 2.5 so we matched them up with Travis Green, Edgar Simental, and Kevin Falk which are some good unqualified recreation players. Saturday night we played Bombers vs Pounders the first game and got beat pretty bad. The second game we mixed all of the players together. The third game was a low pointer only game. Sunday we played several games against Portland and finally came away with a win on the last game. Over the weekend we got a chance to see how well we all could work together as a team and how many different lineups we could use. It was a lot of fun and we gained a little bit more experience together. The crowd was amazing, we had a packed gym on Saturday night. I don't think there was room for any more people in that gym and the heat was a bit much for some of the players. But in all it was a great event. The Boise Bombers want to thank everyone that came out to support the team and those that helped make it all happen. Click on the game image to see more photos and watch video here!
